"Idols SA" judge Somizi almost had to say goodbye to his Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon early last week after it was hijacked while his friend was driving the car. 

The Black Opal ambassador's G-Wagon was hijacked in Ridgeway, Johannesburg, last Monday but was later recovered in Eldorado Park a mere 16km away. 

The driver during the hijacking was Somizi's friend Leeroy Sidambe who was driving home after attending the BRICS Summit gala dinner in Santon. 

Speaking to Sunday World, Sidambe detailed the ordeal stating that four armed men approached him and placed him in the back of the car. They then drove around for hours before dropping him off in an informal settlement in the Vaal area. 

"When they approached me I begged them to spare my life because I have a wife and children to take care of. I asked them to take everything and not harm me." 

The robbers also took some of Sidambe's personal belongings as well as his business and personal bank cards where they withdrew R21 000.

"They took groceries that I had bought, my iPhone, a wristwatch, a wedding ring as well as clothes.

"I had to walk on foot to the nearby settlement and asked for a phone. I called my wife and Somizi to notify them about the incident. I then went to the police station to open a case."

Furthermore, Sidambe also says that going to counselling to deal with the trauma of the incident. 

Police spokesperson Lorraine van Emmerick confirmed that the vehicle was found in Eldorado Park and that no one has been arrested yet. 

Actress Enhle Mbali was also robbed of her jewellery during an attempted hijacking while driving her Porsche in Hyde Park two weeks ago.
