Moby is happy being a “little, bald” white guy.

The 45-year-old dance musician started losing his hair 20 years ago and although he was unsure of his hairless look at first he has grown to like it.

He said: “I would describe myself as little, bald and white. Small, bald white guys are kind of interchangeable. Almost every bald white guy on the planet looks like me. On tour, once or twice a day, some bald white guy will come up to me and say, 'My friends say I look exactly like you.' I use to resent them for it. I lamented the fact that I didn't look like a cross between Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom. Then a few years ago I discovered a combination of acceptance and equanimity when I looked in the mirror. There is nothing terribly wrong with my face, even if some of its parts aren't very inspiring.”

Moby didn't even realise he was going bald at first because he was sporting a shaved head for an ex-girlfriend who wanted him to keep his locks tightly cropped.

It was only after they broke up and he started growing his hair back that he realised he was thinning on top.

He told the guardian.co.uk: “Twenty years ago I dated a woman who liked men with shaved heads, so I started shaving my head. When we broke up I let my hair grow and realised that while we'd been dating I'd been losing my hair. From then on I had to shave my head out of necessity so I didn't look like a used-car salesman. Shaving your head is acceptable. It's when you start wearing toupees and brushing your hair over that things go wrong.”
