New York - She has dated some of the biggest – and most pampered – names in Hollywood.

But Diane Keaton says her relationships were doomed to fail because she lacks the required “managerial skills”.

Things didn’t work out with the likes of Warren Beatty and Al Pacino because they liked to be bossed around, she says.

Keaton, 66, has never married despite going out with a string of leading men including Jack Nicholson and Woody Allen.

In an interview with the US magazine, Ladies Home Journal, she admitted to having a crush on Pacino for 20 years and that she still loves Allen.

But she said: “They needed the right kind of woman. Managerial skills are necessary to handle men like that and I’m not the manager type.

“I also don’t think I have a lot of nurturing skills. I needed as much as they needed and that’s not a good mix.

“I didn’t choose wisely for a long-term partnership where we could weather experiences together and be there for each other.”

She added that Nicholson was “exhausting” as he is “very adept at being the person you want to watch”.

In 1996 Keaton adopted a daughter, Dexter, now 17, followed by son Duke, 12, in 2001.

She said that the main lesson she had learned from her life was “don’t give up on yourself”.

She said: “So you make a mistake here and there, you do too much or you do too little. Just have fun. Smile. And keep putting on lipstick.

“When I got older, I discovered gloves and hats and turtlenecks. When you get to a certain age, you shouldn’t wear strapless gowns where everything is exposed because you look ridiculous.’”- Daily Mail
