Celebs love tattooing their newly found love’s names on their bodies - but what happens when the love fades?

Angelina Jolie

A whirlwind marriage to actor Billy Bob Thornton in 2000 after a two-month courtship prompted Angelina, now 41, to have his name and a dragon tattooed on her shoulder. By 2002, the ink had been erased by laser. Jolie said: ‘I’ve moved on — that’s why it’s going.’ It was replaced with the co-ordinates of her children and husband Brad Pitt’s birthplaces (right).

Melanie Griffith

After four years with film star Antonio Banderas, 55, actress Melanie Griffith had his name inked into a heart on her arm.

Their marriage lasted 18 years — but in the summer of 2014, the couple announced their plans to divorce ‘in a loving and friendly manner’. Soon after, Griffith, 58, had started working on getting rid of this very prominent reminder of her ex with laser treatment.

By the time their divorce was finalised in December 2015, it had almost vanished.

Denise Richards

One-time Bond girl Denise Richards, 45, had ‘Charlie’ tattooed on her ankle in 2002, the year she married hellraising actor Charlie Sheen. They split in 2005 and Sheen quickly had a ‘Denise’ tattoo lasered off. Richards responded by turning her tattoo into a fairy.

Victoria Beckham

No divorce here — but the former Spice Girl, 42, has been quietly fading the numerous tattoos that honour her husband, David, 41.

A large tattoo running from her neck down her back in Hebrew which translates as: ‘I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine’ is almost entirely gone after laser treatment. Also faded to nothingness are a selection of inkings on her wrist.

She has the initials ‘DB’ on her right wrist with the words ‘together forever, eternally’ in Hebrew. On her left wrist is the date in 2006 when the couple renewed their wedding vows and the Latin phrase de integro, meaning again from the start.

The erasing process started last year. She’s not said why it’s being done — it’s thought she finds them in poor taste in her new, more stylish incarnation as a fashion designer.

P.S. She’s happily married but Posh’s tattoo love affair is over

Johnny Depp

Pirates Of The Caribbean star Johnny Depp, 53, is embroiled in a very ugly split from his actress wife Amber Heard, 30, who has accused him of domestic violence.

She filed for divorce in May — but while the matter is yet to reach court, Depp has been far quicker in taking action on his three Heard-inspired tattoos.

Within weeks of their split, the word ‘slim’ on his knuckles — his pet name for her — had been tweaked to read ‘scum’ (above right). And two other tattoos — one reading: ‘Come with me Slim’, the other a pin-up image of Heard — have been covered over rather heavily with designs that are not easily identifiable.

It’s not the first time Depp has regretted an inking. During his relationship with actress Winona Ryder, he got a tattoo that read: ‘Winona Forever’, which he changed to ‘Wino Forever’ after they split in 1993.
