London - Tom Cruise spent his 50th birthday with his eldest two children.
The Rock Of Ages actor reached the milestone on Tuesday, but after third wife Katie Holmes filed for divorce last week, he decided to have a very low-key affair at his Beverly Hills mansion.
His two children with second wife Nicole Kidman, Isabella, 19, and 17-year-old Connor, celebrated with him as did his extended family but one guest who was missing was six-year-old Suri, his daughter with Katie.
A source said: “The plan was he was going to spend his birthday with Katie and Suri in New York City. Then they were going to fly to California where he is going to finish filming Oblivion and spend time there. But he had to change his plans.
“All of Tom's family were together, and one of the reasons he came back to California was that he had to take his family back to Los Angeles.”
However, he was in no mood to celebrate as he wanted little Suri to be there.
The source added to People: “Say what you will about Tom, but there is no doubt he loves his daughter. Not seeing her would be very hard on him.
“His mood was sombre. Just very, very sad.”
Katie - who wants sole custody of Suri - spent Tom's birthday in New York and she and Suri were spotted buying ice-cream. - Bang Showbiz
