The point of taking you back down memory lane is this: Major League Gardens is not a game. It’s the kind of outdoor social festival where you have to come with three things. Number one: A warm jacket, because although it’s always scorching in the afternoon, as soon as the sun goes down, it’s like you’re John Snow without the fur coat. Number two: Bring enough cash for your drinks because no cooler boxes are allowed this year.
And lastly: Bring a good attitude.
Because there will be a whole of people there. This year, the event is at FNB Stadium, so you know it’ll be packed. Plus, and here is probably the best part: Davido will be performing at the Gardens. The Nigerian superstar has put out two of the hottest songs of the year.
Not just in South Africa. Not just on the continent. You know if the thirstbucket that is R Kelly is jumping on your song for a remix, then you are more Mr Worldwide than Pitbull could ever hope to be. So, yeah, Davido has made some, um, major moves this year.
Good morning party people. Please go out to computicket before tickets sell out. Get your tickets NOW‼️‼️‼️you have been warned‼️ pic.twitter.com/OdrnfI1b5x
And if the crowd doesn’t know anything else, at least they will know two things: Fall as well as If. And you have the Major League DJs to thank for that. The twins have been running Major League Gardens for years and they took the event from just a small social fest to one of the highlights of the year for music fans.
The best thing about Major League Gardens is that it’s a truly South African music experience. Because of their Mabala Noise and Family Tree affiliations, it would be easy to assume that this is a hip hop festival but it’s not. Davido will be there and so will Oskido, Black Motion and DJ Tira, as well as DJ Shimza. Don’t miss Kwesta, Nadia Nakai, Maphorisa, Riky Rick, Cassper Nyovest and others this Saturday.
* The Major League Gardens takes place at FNB Stadium on September 16. Tickets are at Computicket.
