Jessica Simpson thinks her marriage to Nick Lachey was her "biggest financial mistake".

The 35-year-old singer has taken a humorous swipe at her first husband, with whom she won over the US in their popular MTV reality show 'Newlyweds: Nick And Jessica', by claiming their relationship threw her into money issues.

When asked by Kelly Evans on 'Closing Bell' on Thursday (10.09.15) to name some of her biggest financial mistakes thus far, Jessica replied: "The biggest money mistakes? I don't know. For some reason I thought of my first marriage!"

The former couple, who shared the same manager, first began dating in January 1999 but called it quits shortly afterwards, only to rekindle their romance five months later.

They took their relationship to the next level in February 2002 when the hunky singer popped the question, and just eight months later on October 26, 2002, they became husband and wife following a romantic ceremony in Texas.

However, their marriage was short-lived as the young lovers announced at the end of 2005 they were going their separate ways, and Jessica later filed for divorce.

Despite her messy first marriage, the 'Employee Of The Month' star has found love again with Eric Johnson.

The couple tied the knot in July 2014 and have children Maxwell, three, and Ace, two, together.

Nick, meanwhile, is married to Vanessa Lachey, with whom he has son Camden, three, and nine-month-old daughter Brooklyn.

Jessica insists she and Eric have no plans to expand her family at the moment.

She said: "No more kids are on the horizon."
