It is the second day in the last month of the year and that means some reason to celebrate, right? Yes, we all have problems and some of us have lost people really close to us, but we are still here to celebrate in their memory. For others it has just been a long year that has finally come to an end and a well-deserved rest is due.

Whatever your reason to need some downtime this festive season, you will need to make it special and one good way of doing this is through food.

All of us love a great dish that has been carefully prepared, but not everyone can pull it off.

If you are a novice in the kitchen and boiling an egg is still a big deal to you, then you need not worry, DStv has your back.

Several shows have been lined up to walk you through how to make the stuff you drool over on MasterChef.

The first one to look out for is Cooking Christmas With Matt and Lisa, which starts today at 10.45am on Food Network (DStv channel 175). We meet Matt Tebbutt and Lisa Faulkner who are British stars that show off their skills in the kitchen.

The show screens for the month so you need to catch every episode as each has a theme and will cover subjects like The Wow Factor, Friends For Dinner, Party and Christmas Eve.

With such an array of topics, your only regret is how much you will have to spend on ingredients.

Then comes the Gordon Ramsay’s Christmas Cook- along which is pretty straight- forward – if you are a fan of the Hell’s Kitchen master ( pictured) and don’t mind his rather abrasive personality.

We are aware of the Gordon Ramsay’s Cookalong where Ramsay invites food gurus to have some sort of cook off.

On the Christmas one things are a little lighter and the invited guests are not really celeb chefs, but they are well known faces. Look out for this show today at 10pm on BBC Lifestyle.

If that’s not your cup of Christmas soup then you might like Food Network’s Christmas Kitchen which premieres on Saturday at 10.45pm on Food Network (DStv Channel 175).

Here the channel dedicates its time to inspiring viewers to making impressive dishes for their guests over the festive season.

To help you achieve this several masters on the subject share their trade secrets. These include Andy Bates, Tristan Welch and Reza Mahammed.

Also, look out for Nigel Slater’s 12 Tastes of Christmas which is almost a “cooking for dummies” type of show. The simplicity with which Slater goes through his recipes will have you cooking with his methods well into Easter.

Slater’s show airs from next week Monday at 10pm on BBC Lifestyle (DStv Channel 174).

Whatever your tastebuds demand, one thing is certain, there is a food show on telly to show you how to make it.
