Britain's Prince Harry has been deployed to Afghanistan.

The 27-year-old royal – who is a qualified Apache helicopter pilot – arrived in the troubled nation yesterday (06.09.12) ahead of a four-month stint, to be based at Camp Bastian in Helmand province.

Royal Navy Captain Jock Gordon, commander of the Joint Aviation Group asked that he be "left" alone to get on with his important work.

He said: "He will be in a difficult and demanding job. And I ask that he be left to get on with his duties and allowed to focus on delivering support to the coalition troops on the ground."

Harry went alongside the 100-strong 662 Squadron, 3 Regiment, Army Air Corps.

It is not the first time he has been in the region; he spent 10 weeks fighting in 2007-08 but was brought back to the UK when the media reported his whereabouts.

The prince has been busy in recent weeks – he was one of a number of royals who were present at various events of the London 2012 Olympic Games and was pictured naked while on holiday in Las Vegas.
