Los Angeles - A drowsy Lindsay Lohan appeared in a Los Angeles court Wednesday to face charges that she lied to police about her involvement in a traffic accident.

The case could land the 26-year-old actress in jail for probation violation, said Judge Stephanie Sautner, who scheduled a pre-trial hearing for March 1.

Lohan is accused of lying to Santa Monica police about driving a sports car that crashed into a dump truck in June, reckless driving and obstructing officers from performing their duties.

She was on probation for theft at the time of the crash, and the judge had warned her that any further violations could result in 245 days in jail. - Sapa-dpa
