Mandela Day has become known worldwide for its charitable work in recognition of our former president Nelson Mandela, who spent 67 years of his life to the service of humanity.

This year, the Nelson Mandela Foundation will celebrate Mandela Day by taking a stand to Action Against Poverty, honouring Nelson Mandela's leadership and devotion to fighting poverty and promoting social justice for all.

The day was launched on his birthday, 18 July, in 2009 by the UN General Assembly and each year we celebrate Madiba’s life and legacy by looking back on what has been done and forward to what will be done to help those who’re less fortunate than us.

As you gear up for Nelson Mandela Day and unsure on how to spend your 67 minutes will comprise, check out some South African celebs who're always going the extra mile for charity.
