More than three years after his last release Endhiran (Robot), Rajinikanth will be seen on the big screen in Kochadaiiyaan, the much-awaited technologically advanced film that opens this week. Deepika Padukone also features – in her first screen romance with Rajinikanth. Bollywood Hungama’s Subhash K Jha and OneIndia.in report…

VERY early in her career when she did back-to-back double roles in Om Shanti Om and Chandni Chowk To China, Deepika Padukone got to do martial arts in the latter film. But nothing like what she has done in the new Rajinikanth release, Kochadaiiyaan.

The actress had been longing to use show her athletic skills on screen.

“I come from a family where sport is a given,” she says.

“We are outdoor types. Doing my own stunts on screen is a dream for me.”

Padukone’s 10-minute stunt in Kochadaiiyaan has been choreographed by Peter Hein, who did the stunts for Rajinikanth’s role in Robot.

Apparently Rajinikanth personally requested Hein to make Padukone’s action sequences “super-hero-styled”.

Padukone’s stunning stunts in Kochadaiiyaan are described by the film’s co-producer, K Murli Manohar, as “never before seen action by a female star from any part of the world... on a par with Uma Thurman’s Kill Bill and Angelina Jolie’s Lara Croft”.

He adds: “Deepika did extensive rehearsals for that one sequence.

“I don’t think any other actress from anywhere in the world has done what she has. No concessions were made for her gender.

“She did the stunts like any leading man.”

Asked to describe the action sequence, the film’s director – Rajinikanth’s second daughter, Soundarya Rajinikanth, said: “It’s a fight with lots of acrobatic action.

“Deepika had to go through continuous and swift movement through various locations at a lightning speed. It’s like a car chase on the feet.”

Soundarya Rajinikanth says the elaborate sequence required several props.

“Bamboos and spheres were used. Action director Peter Hein has choreographed this sequence as he would have done for any male hero.

“I feel it will be one of the highlights of Kochadaiiyaan.”

Oneindia.in reports that the much-awaited period film starring Tamil superstar Rajinikanth and Bollywood’s Padukone is to be released in six languages – Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Punjabi, Bhojpuri and Marathi. This is the first time this is being done in Indian cinema history.

Eros International and Media One Global Entertainment are the producers of the film..

The music for Kochadaiiyaan has been composed by double Oscar winner AR Rahman, with the sound recorded by fellow Oscar winner, Resul Pookutty.
