FROM online reviews it is apparent that there is a big disjunct between what the Hollywood producers thought they were getting and the end product of The Cold Light of Day.
The stellar cast (Bruce Willis, Sigourney Weaver and the next Superman, Henry Cavill) and production team (director Mabrouk El Mechri created the fascinating JCVD) suggest the film is going to be an action-packed thriller.
Instead, that might not be the case, if you go by the six percent tomato meter reading on rottentomatoes.com. Granted, there’s no consensus among the critics’ reviews yet, but it is doubtful there are going to be more to add.
The film just about escaped the direct-to-dvd moniker in the US by not previewing to critics and playing for less than two weeks on a limited circuit release.
All of which does not bode well.
Anyway, the storyline is as follows: – a young Wall Street trader, Will (Cavill) is visiting Spain for an annual holiday with the family.
The family get kidnapped when he is making a supply run and then Willis pitches up as a CIA operative to save the day.
Weaver pops up as the bad guy, or rather, bad old lady since she is actually in her 60s already, so we have to wonder whether she’s hard up for the money, because her previous foray into Abduction didn’t go so well either.
Redundant exposition, very little action and a lame plot make for a rather inept thriller by all accounts.
