The rivalry between siblings might not be the oldest form of competition known to mankind but it is definitely one of the most common. This said, Kollywood should be happy that some of the greatest siblings known to Tamil cinema have been supportive of each other despite sharing the same profession.

For instance, the Travancore sisters (Padmini, Lalitha and Ragini) not only shared their profession but were also ready to support each other when required.

While some of the current generation of Kollywood siblings have shown similar interests, concentrating on one particular aspect of cinema, many of them have made names for themselves in different facets of filmmaking, which is a healthy sign.

l Dhanush and Selvaraghavan: Though records might suggest that Kasthuri Raja directed Dhanush’s first movie, Thulluvadho Ilamai, it was actually helmed by Selvaraghavan. Dhanush and Selva share a good rapport and it is also said that Dhanush often brings out his best in the movies directed by his brother.

l Suriya and Karthi: Unlike Dhanush and Selvaraghavan, the Sivakumar brothers share a similar interest in cinema. Though Suriya has admitted that he used to bully his brother when they were younger, they have a greater understanding between them and are both leading heroes in Tamil cinema.

l Jayam Ravi and Jayam Raja: As their names suggest, both men made their debut in Tamil through the movie Jayam. While Raja directed the film, Ravi made an impression in front of the camera. Raja went on to cast his brother in four other movies.

l Shruti Haasan and Akshara Haasan: Though Akshara is yet to make her Kollywood debut, one feels that it is just a matter of time before she does. Shruti recently said Akshara is smart enough to find her way but if she needed her sister’s support she she would get it instantly.

l Aishwarya R Dhanush and Soundarya R Ashwin: While both of them are interested in directing movies, Soundarya’s interest lies in directing animation and motion capture flicks whereas Aishwarya is focused on fabricating real, live cinema.

l Venkat Prabhu and Premji Amaren: Venkat Prabhu has helmed six films so far and Premji has found himself a place in each of those movies and that explains the bonding between the two.

l Silambarasan and Kuralarasan: Kuralarasan will be making his debut as a music director through Simbu’s upcoming movie Idhu Namma Aalu. If the movie works out, not only will Simbu have a chance to regain his lost market, his brother will have an opportunity to grow as a music director.

l Arya and Sathya: While Arya is already an established actor in Kollywood, his brother Sathya is only two movies old. He is currently working on three movies namely; Kadhal 2 Kalyanam, Ettuthikkum Madhayaanai and Chennai Singapore.

l Jiiva and Ramesh: Though they haven’t featured in movies together (except for a special appearance), both are promising actors with Jiiva already a star in Tamil cinema. Ramesh has acted in 15 films. – Oneindia.in
