Saif Ali Khan, Dinesh Vijan and Sunil Lulla’s next film as producers, Lekar Hum Deewana Dil, opened at local cinemas on Friday. Bollywood Hungama’s Joginder Tuteja reports…

MARKING the debut of Armaan Jain, cousin of Kareena Kapoor, Lekar Hum Deewana Dil carries a special title since it bears striking similarities to the chartbusting song from Nasir Hussain’s Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973).

Written by Majrooh Sultanpuri, this track by Asha Bhosle and Kishore Kumar was a huge hit when put to tune by RD Burman. The makers wanted a musical title for their Armaan Jain starrer and penciled in Lekar Hum Deewana Dil, a Bollywood Hungama source said.

This wasn’t a straightforward choice, though, as the film had remained untitled for more than six months before it was officially announced. Although Saif Ali Khan had confirmed that he and his partner, Dinesh Vijan, were making the film with Armaan in the lead, the title was never disclosed. Then, very recently, it came to light that the film would be named Dekho Magar Pyaar Se.

That was discounted, though, as eventually everyone settled for Lekar Hum Deewana Dil. It had a good ring to it and promised a fun-filled musical entertainer, the source said.

That much was expected, considering the fact that the composer was none other than AR Rahman.

“Imtiaz Ali worked with Rahman for the music of Rockstar and now that his brother Arif Ali is debuting as a director with Lekar Hum Deewana Dil, it is expected that the outcome would be memorable once again,” a close associate said.

With a Nasir Hussain-inspired title, the minimum requirement in any case is to have some memorable music in store.

For Jain and Deeksha Seth, the lead pair of Lekar Hum Deewana Dil, it is real life coming close to reel life. In the first initiative of its kind, they are seen promoting a good cause by adopting a stray dog and giving the animal a new lease on life through their debut film.

“In real life, Armaan and Deeksha are avid dog lovers and this cause is very close to them. Producers Eros have conceptualised a unique campaign in which kiosks would be put up at multiplex properties across India stating: ‘Adopt a hero, save a life’. The ‘hero’ here is, of course, a dog. Interestingly, there is a point in the film where Deeksha’s character adopts a puppy which she finds on the road all alone.”

This isn’t all, as an online app, too, has been created which allows users to upload pictures with their dog.

“Well, the idea behind ‘adopting a puppy’ is to raise awareness on how animals also require love, care and support! This also helps in a 360° campaign for the film as well as our corporate social responsibility,” said an Eros spokesperson.

For Jain and Seth, it is as exciting as it gets.

“During the making of the film, we enjoyed some puppy love. No pun intended…” the duo say in unison.

Set in south Mumbai, the film follows the lives of friends Dino and Karishma. Both are young and restless and want to live life on their own terms, frolicking around the city and painting the town red with friends. However, they come under pressure from Karishma’s family, who want her to get married.

She and Dino realise they are “made for each other”. They elope, but learn that sometimes those you love the most can become your biggest problem. They go through friendship, disillusionment, shame, conflict and heartbreak until they find true love. – bollywoodhungama.com
