Boyzone toys with hybrid pop group ideas
The Irish crooners are fast approaching the milestone in their career and talks have begun about what they're going to do to make it a special year for themselves and their fans. Lead singer Ronan Keating has let slip he and the guys - Keith Duffy, Michael Graham and Shane Lynch - will most likely go on a greatest hits tour and have a record to support it.
The 38-year-old pop star - whose new solo album 'Time of My Life' is out now - told BANG Showbiz: “I love touring with Boyzone, I love being with the lads. We celebrate 25 years as a group next year, so we'll definitely mark that in some shape or form. The four of us have started talking, we don't know if it's going to be a tour or an album. I expect it will be a bit of both.”
And Ronan insists late bandmate Stephen Gately will be a big part of the anniversary concerts and they'll be singing a tribute to him each night of the tour.
He said: “In any show we do, we always honour Stephen in some way, quite often we'll sing a song and use his voice on stage. When the four of us are together we always feel like he's on the stage. It's very important to us that we keep his memory alive like that, and he'll be a big part of the 25-year anniversary for sure.”
However, there won't be a new Boyzone track with Stephen's voice on as Ronan admits there are no recordings they could use to make a fresh song. He said: “I don't think there's much in the way of archive recordings of Steven that we can use. We just have samples of his voice that we use on stage. We don't know have anything in the vaults that we can use.”
Ronan previously hinted Boyzone could team up with fellow Irish boy band Westlife and even Girls Aloud for a mega-tour or to create a hybrid pop group.
Speaking about the possibility of a Boyzone and Westlife super-group, he said: “The idea's been thrown around alright. Different collaborations. Not just Westlife, but Girls Aloud and lots of different collaborations. I don't know. Maybe. Never say never to those sort of things. We'll see ... It would be fun, I think, to do something like that.”FemaleFirst
