Buble's tunes do the trick... all the way

Fourplay's DVD recorded in Cape Town in 2005 was released last year. It is aimed at lovers of smooth jazz. The band has built a strong following in South Africa and the DVD will find eager buyers.

Fourplay is: Bob James (keyboards), Nathan East (bass & vocals), Larry Carlton (guitar) and Harvey Mason (drums). The tracks include: Galaxia, Chant, Blues Force, 101 Eastbound, Journey, Tally Ho, Amazing Grace, Max-O-Man and Bali Run.

The performances are slick and professional, but I found the music lacking in something tangible. Jazz usually demands some emotional response from the listener... which this performance does not elicit. It is almost bubblegum for the ears.

Fourplay can do better than this, but the DVD will certainly be snatched up by their large fan base. You can watch a video from the DVD by going to: www.notreble.com and following the links. To purchase the DVD contact Bula Music on 011 482 9840.

It is almost Valentine's Day and the clever guys have already put the bubbly on ice and purchased the latest Michael Bublé album, Crazy Love. If you have seduction in mind, you'll do the same.

The new Bublé CD is more of the same but, at last, he is showing some maturity. I found it difficult to believe in this Canadian's first attempts at singing about love, requited or otherwise. He had just graduated from a state of pimply adolescence, so what could he know of love's travails? I prefer vocal chords that have been stewed in bourbon and cigar smoke and personalities that have, as stated by Frank Sinatra, "graduated from the school of hard knocks".

Crooners who have been around the block a few times like Sinatra, Steve Tyrell and Dean Martin. But, it seems as if the "slightly" more mature Bublé is getting there. Even at his young age his romantic interludes are the stuff of tabloids and now he is engaged to be married.

Crazy Love is available on CD and vinyl and kicks off with the much-loved Cry Me A River. Other tracks include: All Of Me; Georgia On My Mind; Heartache Tonight; Crazy Love and You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You. Thirteen tracks in all for February 14.

WIN! WIN! WIN!
