GIG OF THE WEEK:

IT’S so close you can almost taste it. On Monday the much-anticipated Chris Brown Carpe Diem Tour goes down at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

In 2005, then 16-year-old Brown, emerged from the small town of Tappahannock, Virginia.

His star rose swiftly as his promising skills drew comparisons to his idols, Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.

His self-titled debut album, which was certified double platinum, sold more than 3 million copies, making Brown the newest American R&B sensation.

He earned two Grammy nods in addition to a nationally televised performance on awards night in 2007 with Lionel Richie and Smokey Robinson joining him for a medley of their respective hits.

As his career took off, so, too, did his list of accomplishments and awards, including three 2006 Billboard Awards; a Soul Train Award; Teen Choice trophies; three 2008 American Music Awards; four 2008 BET Awards; an MTV Video Music Award; a 2008 NAACP Award for Outstanding Male Artist; a 2008 World Music Award for World’s Best Male

R&B Artist; two Grammy nominations including Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for Take You Down; and two People’s Choice Awards.
