GIG OF THE WEEK

Sihle Zungu

KZNSA Gallery |(Tomorrow)

TOMORROW you can catch young composer and lyricist Sihle Zungu at the KZNSA Gallery in Glenwood as he launches his CD, Journeying On Live.

According to a press release, Zungu has brought together some of Durban’s talented young jazz musicians to perform his compositions.

His music is based on jazz, but also has reggae and gospel influences. He brings you his musical perspective and experience through spiritual songs and songs about love and social awareness.

This month, Zungu presents his Journeying On Live album to the public. The offering was recorded last year from his performances at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown and The Jazzy Rainbow Restaurant in Durban.

The Journeying On band comprises Ndu Shezi (lead vocals), Lindelwe Ngonelo (piano), Mxolisi Mdlalose (saxophone), Sidney Rash (drums) and Ildo Nandja (bass).

The singer first appeared on the music scene in the late 1990s when he started working with an all-girl vocal band called A-Capella 6 (former high school pupils of Ridge Park College in Durban) and other a capella groups.

He has been involved in the production and music direction of the art collective The Jam Life Show (Durban Playhouse, 2004) and the 1st Kaset music show (Durban Playhouse, 2012). These are just some of the projects that stand out over the years.

• Catch Sihle Zungu’s Journeying On Live CD launch tomorrow at the KZNSA Gallery, 166 Bulwer Road, Glenwood. Doors open at 7pm. R60 excluding CD and R120 including CD. Bookings: 031 277 1705.
