Durban - The newcomers dominated this year’s Metro FM awards and a new bar was set by Fifi Cooper, one of South Africa’s best female Motswako MC’s.

In a male dominated industry Cooper is the rose amongst the thorns and she is definitely blossoming.

Fifi Cooper, otherwise known as Refilwe Mooketsi, dropped jaws when she walked away with three awards on Saturday evening. Cooper released her debut album last year titled 20Fifi. The album which featured her hit single “Kisses” featuring rapper AB Crazy.

Cooper has been on the music scene for some time and released numerous mixtapes and was featured on Khuli Chana’s “Mnatbawen” hit single. The Mafikeng artist is the only South African female rapper to win the award for best female artist at the Metro’s . She won Best Female Artist; Best New Artist and Best Produced Album.

Ecstatic, the Mafikeng Emcee says she is grateful to God for winning the awards. “Im so grateful for winning these awards, as the best female rapper to release an album in a male dominated genre, it’s a clear sign that if you follow your passion and pray for guidance anything is possible. I didn’t expect to win so many (awards). I was happy to be nominated and I would have been happy with even one award, but I’m not complaining and I’m embracing God’s plan for my life” says Cooper.

Cooper’s “Truth or Dare” single is topping the charts in radio stations across the country and she will be touring throughout the year sharing her music with her fans.

A grateful Cooper expresses her gratitude to her fans and says: “Thank you to #fifination, its because of my fans, young and old, that I am here. Thank you for loving me as I am, I hope to continue giving you the best of me in 2016. Love always”.

Signed under the same record company, Ambitious Entertainment, newcomer rapper Emtee, who is widely known for his hit single “Pearl Thusi”, walked away with four awards for Listeners Choice; Best Remix; Best Music Video and Best Rap Album against the likes of Cassper Nyovest and Riky Rick.
