MENTION anything along the lines of Africa’s biggest beach party and thousands of Durban party-goers will know you’re talking about the Mr Price Pro.

This year, the annual surf and music festival holds three nights of free concerts at Salt Rock beach, starting tomorrow and running until Saturday.

Tomorrow night features kwaito, Afro-pop, hip hop and house and top entertainers like Mafikizolo, Professor, DJ Cndo, Majozi and Teargas.

Earlier, this year, Mafikizolo walked away with eight honours at the 20th annual Sama awards, and last month the singing duo won best group and song of the year at the MTV Africa Music Awards (Mamas).

On Friday, you can expect an evening of pop, rock and dance energy. Matthew Mole, Gangs of Ballet, ChianoSky, Iscream and the Chocolate Stix, ISO, LCNVL, GoodLuck and Dino Bravo are on the bill.

Gangs of Ballet will be pumping out their award-winning hits after they made their home town and the rest of the continent proud when they won a Mama for best alternative this year.

The final night features some of 5FM’s most popular DJs such as Poppy, DJ Fresh, Euphonik, Roger Goode, Milkshake and DJ Warras.

F

or the first time, the concerts have been extended for an extra night. According to the KwaDukuza municipality events co-ordinator, Collette Bundy, they wanted to attract more people.

“We’ve really expanded our programme,” said Bundy.

There’s so much to do from retail beach action to local entertainment, extreme sports and a lot of activities in the evenings such as the Coastal Living Bru food and wine exhibition, fashion shows and cooking competitions.

“And we have a few musical surprises on Friday and Saturday, with some big South African acts playing on stage.

“We’re looking forward to hosting it,” she said.
