RAPPER Cassper Nyovest became the main highlight of the evening when he scooped three awards at the 2014 Channel O Africa Music Video Awards at the Nasrec Expo on Saturday.

The Doc Shebeleza hit-maker won Most Gifted Male Artist, Most Gifted Southern African Artist and the biggest award of the night – the Jameson Most Gifted Video of the Year – categories.

He was up against talented acts such as DJ Clock, Tiwa Savage, K.O, Riky Rick, Burna Boy, Emmy Gee and his arch-rival, AKA.

Self-proclaimed prince of hip hop, AKA, surprisingly received only one accolade in the Most Gifted Hip Hop category.

Actress and vocalist Pam Andrews and Vuzu presenter and Generations actress Denise Zimba caused a stir on Twitter.

The two sported the sheerest of dresses, making it difficult for the twitterati to decide who wore the most risqué job. Andrews took her inspiration from the Bible, with her lace dress seeming to consist of the three fig leaves that (presumably) covered her modesty.

Zimba’s inspiration appeared to have been from the book of superheroes. She sported a black bra and bikini set. Pictures showed she was all skin at the back as the bikini turned out to be a thong.

Nigeria’s Tiwa Savage, who was up against Thembi Seete, Bucie, Lizha James and Seyi Shay, won in the Most Gifted Female category for her smash hit, Eminado.

This year’s Special Recognition Award went to Boom Shaka. Channel O took the viewer back in time by paying homage to the kwaito group.

This included a performance from surviving members Junior Sokhela, Theo Nhlengethwa and Thembi Seete, who paid tribute to fallen band member Lebo Mathosa.

Surprises on the night included the non-wins of local rapper K.O, DJ Clock and Nigerian superstar Davido, who had great music this year.

Siyabonga “Scoop” Ngwekazi and Eku Edewor hosted the event.
