Cape Town - Dedication and discipline is what rapper “Index”, a 24-year-old from Khayelitsha, said secured him a chance to share a stage with famous acts like Teargas, AKA, DJ Zintle, Oskido, Pro and Tumi and the Volume.

Index, whose real name is Nkululeko Dlomo, said he discovered his love for poetry and music when he was a teen. Born and raised in Khayelitsha, the young man decided he had something to say to the world and wrote his first offerings.

Social ills and everyday life is what inspired his rapping, he said. “I regret studying graphic design that I could have learnt at home. If I had paid attention to my music career at that time I would have been very far by now,” he said.

In 2012 he was chosen to be the brand ambassador of Mos Native, a clothing line in Cape Town. In the same year he was hailed as among the best rappers in the township.

He also performed on a daily youth show called Hectic Nine-9 in 2013.

He describes his home as loving, despite not having much and said the love and wisdom he got from his parents made him who he is today.

Index released his first single Ebumnandini and his mix tape Blood Sweat and Tears last year.

This year, he released his hit single Kuyafiwa, which is gaining popularity on social media. “Through hard work and determination I believe I’m the next big thing.”
