It’s no secret that Aretha Franklin has meant a lot to the music industry the world over. So much so that it’s been hard for a lot of people to stay away from covering her songs.

Here are five of our favourite Aretha covers.

Mary J Blige: (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman

From the Queen of Soul to the Queen of Hip Hop-Soul. Mary J Blige covered Aretha Franklin’s "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" so well it became a classic in its own right.

Demi Lovato: Aint No Way

Young Demi has her own demons to fight but she has always had the voice of a fiery angel. That is clear on her cover of Aretha’s 1968 hit, "Aint No Way."

Fantasia: Chain of Fools

The singer who went on to become a global star was still auditioning for American Idol when she chose to sing this song. Performing any Aretha song is not easy - even "Chain of Fools." After seeing this, you’ll know why Fantasia deserved to win.

Lianne La Havas: I Say A Little Prayer

Yes, we know. "Say A Little Prayer" is actually Dionne Warwick’s song but when people sing it, they’re only thinking of one person: Aretha Franklin. British singer, Lianne La Havas thought she was paying.

Jennifer Hudson: Aretha Medley

There is no voice that can compare to Aretha Franklin’s. And believe us, we’re not trying. But if Lifetime was serious about doing an Aretha biopic with class, they’d do well to cast Jennifer Hudson in the lead role. Just the way she sings this medley should be proof.
