Christmas came early for gospel music lovers this year.

Fans of contemporary gospel sensation Ntokozo Mbambo are in for a treat this festive season as the Joyous Celebration star takes them through her 20-year musical journey with the launch of her surprise album titled Moments In Time.

The new album comes after her sold-out concert at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park a few months ago.

“This is a surprise album for all my followers, fans and supporters. Nobody actually knew we were recording until people saw the equipment,” says Mbambo.

Moments In Time features songs and hymns that people have loved over the years. “They are songs I've sung before and, of course, new songs as well.”

The double CD features 27 tracks, with some of the popular songs from Mbambo’s Joyous Celebration days.

Speaking to Mbambo at the album launch in Fourways earlier this week, the renowned gospel singer beamed with joy as she went down memory lane a day before her 33rd birthday.

Mbambo started singing when her mother gave her a platform to sing in the church worship team.

One Sunday, Mbambo’s mother handed her the mic, "and there I was as a four-year-old, standing in front of the whole church singing the song my mom was supposed to sing”.

Her music career, however, began to take off when she was 13, with her debut solo album Bambelela. At 15, she became the youngest member to join Joyous Celebration.

If she wasn't doing music, Mbambo said she would have been a psychologist. With the recent passing of hip-hop giant HHP and the conversation around depression and suicide on social media, Mbambo believes this conversation should be more open.

Moments In Time is now available in all digital music stores.
