Durban-born songstress, Jessica Chazz, recently released her first six track EP titled Dreamin’ under her independent record label, Moodlab Music.
The young Canada- based pop artist, who recently enjoyed success from her first single, Answer, pays attention to issues surrounding young South Africans in her EP.
The inspiration behind the record came from the journey of fulfilling a dream.
“It didn't start out as the plan in general but when we heard the theme of each song and listened to the sentiment of the society and the people around us, it made sense that the now title track Dreamin' became one of my favorites and the title of the EP.
"Dreamin' talks about the struggle that I went through and that we heard so many people around us talking about - the struggle of deciding to take a chance on a dream,” says Chazz.
“I feel like because I listened to an eclectic mix of music growing up, you will hear a few musical influences on this EP. Ranging from country, to R&B to Reggae to Pop. I grew up listening to gospel music, Stevie Wonder, Celine Dion, Queen, Cliff Richard, John Denver, Elvis Presley and the list goes on and I think that is evident in my music,” she said.
Chazz’s songs in the EP was co-produced by her sister, Vanessa Moodley, and mixed by Greg Bedford in Durban. The album was recorded in South Africa, Canada and the U.S. The label, Moodlab Music has been hard at work with the objective of not only bringing fresh and authentic sounds to music lovers, but also to provide more opportunities for female artists.
The Dreamin EP is now available at all major digital stores including iTunes, Google Play, Amazon Music, Spotify, Deezer, Tidal and Youtube. With determination and a voice that stays with you long after you've heard it, her music has received a warm public response. Answer was also play listed in South Africa on Durban Youth Radio, LotusFM, Jamza Radio and Skye Radio.
