Rapper Luna Florentino is on a mission to take over the music industry. The 22-year-old, who was born and raised in Rustenburg, is already creating waves in the industry with a hit his single #FlorentinoMariachi.
Luna says his next focus is growing his fan base and taking his music globally.
“I’m working on getting my music beyond Africa and to the rest of world. I want to elevate South African hip hop and become more than just an artist. At some point, I’m going to become the platform for the next generation.”
Luna’s breakthrough in the industry was in 2016, and some of his notable achievements include producing and featuring on DJ Switch’s single On The Way, which features Maraza and Dee XCLSV.
Below is a list five albums that have had the most profound influence on Luna's career:
Lil Wayne - Tha Carter 3
This was the album that introduced me to swag. This was the time when Supra sneakers and plain white t-shirts were in fashion.

Eminem - Encore
I got introduced to Hip Hop through this album. This is where I fell in love with the art of storytelling through rap music.

Lil Wayne - No Ceilings
On the day that I heard this, we were learning about figures of speech in English class. We had just touched on similes and metaphors that day and when I got home, my homie plugged me with this project and I fell even harder for Hip Hop.
I started to pick up on similes and metaphors, along with the storylines that the rappers told.

Luna Florentino - Florentino Mariachi
This was my first full body of work and it is a special bookmark of the day my life changed forever.

Swizz Beatz - One Man Band Man
I fell in love with the art of beat making after listening to this. This album reminds me of the days when Mxit was our go-to social media platform. That's around the time I came up with the name "The Urban Lunatic", my former stage name.
