The MTV Europe Music Awards are just over a week from now and one of the biggest award shows in the world is set to be a blast. The awards will take place in London’s SSE Arena and this will be the sixth time the British capital plays host. The show will be hosted by Rita Ora.

“I’m so excited to be hosting this year’s MTV EMAs in my home town. I still remember how much fun my first EMAs were in Frankfurt in 2012, when I performed,” Ora said.

Among the nominations for the awards, six top acts from the African continent have been included. Babes Wodumo, Nasty C, Wizkid, Davido, C4 Pedro and Nyanshinski have all been nominated in the Best African category. Only one will be crowned as the overall winner of this category.

Angola’s C4 Pedro, who will be attending the awards, said he was excited. “It feels great. As a lusophone (Portuguese speaking) singer, I just want everyone to know how big and strong we are,” he said.

He also said the nomination was significant. “For me personally, it’s very important.

“Lusophone artists from Angola have been nominated since 2005 and never won. We feel like ‘only Nigerians and South Africans can win this award’ but I’m telling you, change is going to come one day...”

SA’s Nasty C, who has been nominated for an international award before, said he was honoured. “I’m extremely honoured and humbled by it. It really means a lot to see that my work is being recognised across the world,” he said.

On the international front, Taylor Swift leads the pack, nabbing six nods including best video for Look What You Made Me Do. Shawn Mendes received five nominations.

Other nominees include Kendrick Lamar, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato and Bruno Mars.

Performances for the night will include Liam Payne, French Montana, Kesha, Travis Scott and The Killers.
