With the cold fronts becoming more frequent, it’s safe to say we’re staring winter in the face now. However, South Africans aren’t ready to say goodbye to the outdoor fun just yet. Enter Summerwaves.

As the name suggests, the organisers are hoping for sunshine and warm water to frolick in when music is the order of the day on Sunday. The event will take place at Shimmy Beach Club in Cape Town. It will feature UK teen sensation Jasmine Thompson as one of the headliners.

You may remember her as the girl who broke onto the scene with her penchant for performing covers on Youtube. She and Rufus and Chaka Khan’s Aint Nobody and the Felix Jaehns remix became a hit on radio. She’s also gone on to record a cover of Tracy Chapman’s iconic Fast Car.

The other international acts include German tropical house DJ FlicFlac and Austrian singer-songwriter James Hersey.

Local artists will be represented by newcomers Pop Art as well as Blanka Mazimela, Thank Me Later, Gareth Kenward and Jet Treger. With this line-up, there’ll be plenty of house music to dance to on Sunday.

Those in Gauteng won’t be missing out on the action because the fifth annual Parklife Festival, presented by 947 and Breakout, will be at Marks Park in Joburg on Saturday.

There won’t be as much house music on the menu, however, although the international line-up for the show is the same as the Cape Town party the following day.

But in terms of local musicians, there’s a better variety of live acts in Jozi. Jeremy Loops has been confirmed to play, and he and his band are always a treat.

Dance lovers will be thrilled to see that GoodLuck is also on the line-up. Majozi – who drops his album later this month – will also sling his guitar that way, while psych-pop band Al Bairre will also be performing.

Don’t miss out on Monark, Desmond and the Tutus, Tresor as well as Kyle Deutsch and Shekinah.

The OGs will also be represented by Just Jinjer, who are back with a new album, and Mi Casa, who are phenomenal performers.

Be at the Parklife Festival at Marks Park in Joburg on Saturday and at Summerwaves at Shimmy Beach Club in Cape Town on Sunday. Tickets are available at parklifefestival.co.za and at summerwaves.co.za
