Poet and musician Ntsiki Mazwai is known for publicly expressing her opinions, without fear or favour. Mazwai semi-regularly takes shots at people on social media or through her blog over topical issues. It was the outgoing public protector Thuli Madonsela's turn on Wednesday when Mazwai launched an attack on her “Black Consciousness” credentials.

Madonsela was a guest on John Robbie's breakfast show on 702 where she commented on the hair controversy surrounding Pretoria Girls High.

Pretoria Girls High grabbed the country's attention after students claimed that black pupils were not allowed to wear their hair naturally, sparking a national debate.

The outgoing public protector said, “I'm not keen to condemn everyone as racist. What was normal in the old South Africa is not normal now.”

According to an article on 702’s website, Madonsela said South Africans practice unconscious racism, whether it's disability discrimination or discrimination against the LGBTI community.

She said the recent debate was about more than hair.

Riding on the interview, Mazwai took to Twitter to accuse Madonsela of being a “white people pleaser”.

She tweeted, “Mcim I told you Thuli had black self hate issues....White people pleaser”.

She went on to take another shot at her, saying, “Thuli Madonsela is not an authority on BC issues.....AT ALL!!!!!”
