Peter Andre and his girlfriend Emily MacDonagh have got engaged.

The 40-year-old singer and Emily - who welcomed their baby daughter into the world earlier this month - are getting married after Pete proposed to her in their child's nursery.

Speaking to the new UK issue of OK! magazine, Emily said: “It was such a shock. He always said he'd like to do it before the baby was born and I just thought he'd do it after - I was happy, I didn't need a ring, but it was amazing.”

Speaking about the moment he popped the question, Pete revealed: “She said, 'Are you serious?' and burst into tears - it was so emotional. We lay down in the nursery for ages because it was such a special room to us.”

Pete - who has two other children, Princess Tiaamii, six, and Junior, nine, with his ex-wife Katie Price - had a bespoke engagement ring made for Emily, 23.

The diamond band took six weeks to complete, but for Emily it was worth the wait.

She gushed: “It's so sparkly, I love it!”

The couple also opened up on Emily's labour, with the medical student revealing she was in so much pain she kept reaching out to pull on Pete's hair.

She said: “I'm proud of myself for getting through it. I pulled a lot of Pete's hair out, but he's got enough to spare. I was so happy she was healthy, it was amazing. I was looking at her perfect form and little fingernails. I kept thinking, how did we make that?”

Pete added: “I'd never seen anything like it, I was crying the whole way through the labour.”

The happy couple are still yet to pick a name for their newborn.
