Kate Winslet's divorce from Sam Mendes made her stronger.

The 37-year-old actress split with the 'Skyfall' director in 2010 and tied the knot with third husband Ned Rocknroll in December 2012 and admitted the last few years have taught her "a great deal" about herself.

In an interview in the April edition of Harper's Bazaar UK, she said: "I've really learnt a great deal about myself, in the last four years in particular.

"I think I can see more clearly now - about how the pattern of past experiences has shaped who I am, and the characters I have played- and I'm grateful for that."

Kate - who was also married to Jim Threapleton from 1998 to 2001 - thinks her past difficulties have made her stronger.

She explained: "I have so much more material to draw on for work - rubble, bricks - and I know I can carry it now. I'm not going to drop it, and if I do, I'll sift through it. Does that make any sense at all? Probably not."

While the wedding of Kate - who has children Mia, 12, with Jim and Joe, eight, with Sam - and Ned was a quiet affair in front of only 12 guests, the couple were reportedly planning it for some time.

A source previously said: "Marriage has always been on the cards and they've been talking about doing it for the past couple of months. It wasn't a spur-of-the-moment thing, but they wanted to keep it secret."
