American crime drama Blindspot is approaching its season finale which airs on 1Magic on June 28.
And what makes this episode extra special is that it was filmed in the Mother City in April.
Blindspot follows a woman (Jane Doe) who has lost her memory. She was found naked in Times Square, New York, her body covered in intricate tattoos.
As the series progresses she discovers that the tattoos set off a vast and complex set of mysteries which the FBI picks up on. They begin to follow the road map of her tattoos into a larger conspiracy of crime, while bringing her closer to discovering the truth about her identity.
While filming at the Table Bay Hotel we got the opportunity to sit with Luke Mitchell who plays Roman Briggs, Jane’s brother and a member of Sandstorm.
Rob Brown plays Edgar Reade, an FBI Special Agent and member of Kurt’s team. The newest addition to the show is Tori Anderson who plays Blake Crawford, a wealthy socialite and daughter of Hank Crawford.
Mitchell has been with the show since season two after leaving Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and since joining the cast has been a series regular.
This season his character, Roman, has enjoyed being in a place of power and has been both a help and a hindrance to the FBI. He does have an endgame as to the reasoning behind him hurting his sister which is set to be revealed as the show goes on.
Michell explains that Roman’s lust for power stems from him starting as a henchman.
“Last season Roman was a yes-man, constantly overlooked, belittled and he didn’t have any power. This season he has all the power and he doesn’t have anyone to answer to. He’s getting to enjoy things that he’s never enjoyed in his life before.”
With the season finale drawing near, Mitchell says viewers need to be prepared for a lot of heartache. Added to that, multiple people are in danger and it’s going to be an emotional climax.
“And to end it in Cape Town, South Africa, where my character and Jamie’s (Alexander) are born is a full-circle thing and I think the writers have done an amazing job.”
FBI Special Agent Reade is another major player and this season he finally got the job he has wanted since the first season.
Speaking about the new developments with Agent Reade, Brown says: “Reade is established and is back in control after his drug problem in season two and after he had to take down his mentor and former boss.
He’s in a new relationship and knows who he is after dealing with his demons last season.”
Speaking on the season finale, he says that most of Reade’s fans are more interested in his love life than in him catching bad guys.
As one of the newest cast members, Anderson shared her experience of coming into the show in its third season.
“I think it’s always intimidating coming into a show because it’s a well-oiled machine at this point - especially in season three. But this has been the most wonderful experience, the cast is welcoming and inviting. I’ve worked with Mitchell who’s probably the nicest human I’ve ever met.”
Like her fellow cast members, Anderson says the upcoming season finale will include a whole lot of twists and turns. Fans can expect to be surprised on several levels.
Blindspot season 3 finale will air on June 28 at 8.30pm on 1Magic DSTV(103).
