Many hearts across the country broke yesterday after Generations The Legacy fans found out that much-loved character Gadaffi is leaving the soapie.

The popular soapie said in a statement that Vuyo Dabula, who plays Gadaffi, had asked to be released from his contract to pursue other opportunities.

Dabula is quoted as saying: “This is the place where I blew up and I think now is the right time to move on and do other things with the exposure the show has given to me.”

The heart-throb said he would remember the many meaningful friendships and memories he’d made on the show.

“Generations The Legacy has allowed me to take my acting craft to newer and better levels, and I plan to take that into future characters I’ll be portraying.”

The soapie’s creator and director, Mfundi Vundla, also wished the actor well. “He’s a talented young man, he’ll flourish in his endeavours.”

Publicity manager Gaaratwe Mokhethi said despite Dabula’s departure, the show would still be packed with “high drama, intrigue and intensity”.

“We would like to wish Vuyo all the best and thank him for his contribution in making Generations The Legacy one of the most watched soaps,” Mokhethi said.

In the soapie, Dabula played a sexy villain, notorious for his womanising and business dealings in the criminal underworld.

He has also appeared on Isidingo and Yizo Yizo – Part 3.

Generations The Legacy fans took to social media to express how they felt about Dabula’s departure.

“I hope @gen_legacy has exciting actors up their sleeve,” @Thabang4real tweeted.

“We sure do,” responded @gen_legacy.

Last month, SABC1 announced that two actors were leaving the show: Denise Zimba, who played Mary Gumede, and Asanda Foji, who played Simphiwe Moroka.
