For months now since the announcement in June, Mzansi has been speculating on who the first Bachelor would be and received the answer on Sunday night.

The long wait for the announcement of the first South African Bachelor ended on Sunday with the reveal of former Sharks rugby player and international model Lee Thompson and tweeps aren't feeling him.

And while auditions have closed and we wait to see which one of the 25 lucky women stand a chance to end up with the 1.88m tall Thompson, his announcement sent divisive opinions through the Twitterverse.

Thompson is the typical archetype that we've come to know from the American Bachelors with some Twitter users gushing over his looks.

Oh my heavenly lord!!! 😮 Isn't he rather easy on the eye?!?! 😉 #TheBachelorSA

My colleagues after seeing South Africa's first bachelor, @Lee_Thompson_'s pics:

"oh my fuck"

"Ooh ja... i'm definitely gonna follow him on Instagram"

"My husband just sent me the link, is it too late to enter??"

We've done well, shame. #TheBachelorSA

However, others hoped that the first South African bachelor would have a bit more melanin.

Why am i not surprised they chose a white dude. lemme guess he is into blonde girls with blue eyes n fake boobs...Smh #TheBachelorSA

But 68% of the population in SA is black and they’ve chosen a (good looking) white guy?

When are we going to make tv that represents and embraces our entire country and different cultures?

Disappointed with #TheBachelorSA- we missed the opportunity to make it a proper 🇿🇦 show https://t.co/w2OBgW4Yxi

Even in a whole South Africa black women have no chance of winning #TheBachelorSA😅 At least they’re keeping true to the franchise 🤷🏾‍♀️😂

#TheBachelorSA would've been great t.v if they chose a beautiful black man to be the bachelor

The Bachelor will only meet the ladies once filming commences. The show will be screened on M-Net 101 from Valentine’s Day, 14 February 2019.
