Idols singing sensation Sasha-Lee Davids received her prize car on Saturday - but her father had to drive it out of the dealership, as she does not have a driver's licence.

Sasha-Lee is sharing the Idols title with Jason Hartman, after an SMS botch meant 680 000 votes for him were not initially tallied. Each is receiving the same prizes.

Sasha-Lee, 18, from Atlantis, said she was "overwhelmed" and that it had not sunk in yet that she was an Idol. "It will probably sink in next year when another Idol is crowned."

A clearly elated Davids said she never thought that she would have a car at her age. She was presented with a black Citroen C1 iPlay worth R145 000.

"I love it because it is a nice car for a young person to drive. I have always dreamt of having a black car."

Davids has a busy year aheadas she is going to be recording her first album, doing shows and fitting in driving lessons.

"The most important thing right now is the album so the hard work will soon start," said Davids.

Speaking about her new-found fame, Davids said she was still the same person she used to be; the only difference was that she was now more recognisable because she had been on Idols for four months.

She realised that if it had not been for the people who had voted for her she would not be where she was today.

She also hoped at some stage to pursue her studies.

"I would like to have something to fall back on." Sasha-Lee's mother Sally said the family was still "very excited" and proud.

"It is not everyday that you get a new car so it is a very big thing."
