Gil Oved discuses his television likes and dislikes as one of five business moguls bankrolling budding entrepreneurs in M-Net’s Shark Tank South Africa.

What television show do you try to not miss?

Game of Thrones. Incomparably, the best show on TV currently. The production quality is unsurpassed and the complex plotline twists and turns make it unmissable.

The television shows you find the most over-rated?

Modern Family. Maybe it’s just me, but I just don’t get it…

Television shows you have loved over the years?

As a kid, I loved MacGyver, The A-Team and Knight Rider. Then, as a teen, it was shows like Beverly Hills 90210 (the original series, not the remake.) Now it’s a toss-up between Breaking Bad and Mad Men. Now that’s great TV.

Your favourite TV character of all time?

Walter White (alias Heisenberg) in Breaking Bad.

Your favourite television presenter?

Trevor Noah. He holds the flag up high and makes the world laugh doing it. Smart, witty, charming… and from South Africa.

Favourite TV celebrity chef?

Gordon Ramsay. What a guy – he says it like it is. Smart, straightforward and ‘scary’. TV gold.

Favourite television theme tunes over the years?

Not sure why, but the theme music from The Knick got me. I downloaded the entire album and now I stream it around the house on any given weekend when I’m in the mood for something unique and perplexing.

A television show you would love to see remade?

All of the classic shows that have been remade never live up to the original, but I’m the kind of guy that looks forward and not back. I’d like a new version of Lost – with a new ending.

If a mini-series were made about your life, who would you like to play you?

Riaad Moosa. It always impresses me when someone excels in multiple fields, so who better than a doctor, comedian and actor?

One of your favourite TV ads of all time?

The old Lunch Bar ad: “what kind of a Mac’er are you?”… I loved to re-enact that when I was a kid, accent and all.

The television celebrity you most like?

Anele Mdoda. She’s a force of nature. TV, radio, you name it… she simply has such an amazing presence. I’m expecting big things from her.

The television celebrity you most dislike?

Kim Kardashian. I love to hate her.

What should there be more of on TV – and what should there be less of?

We need big-budget South African series. We have some of the most talented actors and writers, and I would love to see what they are capable of.
