Nineteen-year-old social media influencer Katinka’s 'Survivor South Africa: Philippines' game went down in flames on Thursday night as a failed coup attempt against ‘Mafia Don’ Werner cost her a shot at the R1 million prize.
When Tom leaked news to Werner that Katinka had approached him to vote out the Pastor, the ‘fireballs’ rained down as he played his Hidden Immunity Idol at Tribal Council to save Jeanne and dump Katinka out of the game.
Why did you decide to enter?
I’ve always loved Survivor by Destiny’s Child, it’s a catchy song! Haha no I’m kidding, I do love the song but I’ve also always loved the show, as a child I always watched the American version so when auditions were open I tried out and I didn’t think I would be considered but I made it.
How did you prepare?
To be honest I did absolutely nothing! In fact, I was sick before I flew to the islands, I had bronchitis because I made sure I enjoyed the festive season so I really wasn’t thinking about preparing for Survivor. I don’t really think you can prepare because it’s not a consistent game.
Why did you try to get rid of Werner?
Oh my goodness, firstly that was such a disaster because look at me now. I felt that a big move needed to be made. In this game, you’re a playing for yourself but with other people and we were at a point where the jury decides who wins R1 million and I needed to save myself.
Any regrets?
Oh yes, I regret speaking to Tom and telling him what my plans were, that backfired terribly.
You were the youngest person in the game, did that scare you?
No, it didn’t scare me at all, in fact, I was very happy about being the youngest. I am a very friendly and approachable person, I get on with anyone of any age.
What lessons did you learn from this experience?
I learnt that no matter how old you are got must always stand up for yourself. I also learnt that if I want to be skinny I must just starve myself.
