What a wow! That is all I have to say about last nights episode of Survivor South Africa: Philippines. If you thought the first episode was exciting, the second delivered just as many twists and turns.
In a shocking twist, 55 year-old HR Executive, Neil Voller’s stay came to a dramatic end as a tie-breaking draw of rocks, yes rocks have already made an appearance, at Tribal Council saw him eliminated, moments after being unanimously elected as tribe Luzon’s leader.

Following his unexpected departure, Neil spoke to us.
Why did you decided to enter Survivor South Africa?
Survivor is actually my lifestyle, I have always been someone who pushed themselves. I have climbed Kilimanjaro, I have done the Comrades Marathon multiple times, I am a avid hiker as well so deciding to do Survivor was very easy because I love pushing boundaries and this experience did not take me out of my comfort zone, in fact I was in an environment I thrive in.
How did you prepare for Survivor SA?
I like to live life in the moment and experience things myself so to be honest there was not a lot of preparation at all. I consider myself a healthy person so what I did was watch past seasons as preparation and just before leaving, I did some physical training.
What was your strategy going into the game?
My strategy was to disappear and that might sound weird because I was just elected as leader but I really wanted to be in the background and just be the old uncle that people go to for advice and I found that a little difficult to do.
You spent just 6 days on the show, but what did you learn?
I actually did not learn anything in terms of life lessons, the experience just affirmed what I know about me and my abilities
What went through your mind when you realised you had picked the white rock?
Can I just say that the adrenaline in the moment was pumping, when I opened my hand I was immediately disappointed but that changed because I realised that I was leaving like a rock star because the elimination was something no one has control over, I was not outplayed by anyone.
Any regrets?
Zero. I played the game the best way I knew how and I loved every single moment of it.
What was the first thing you did when you got home?
I am a Durban boy so I ate a hot chicken curry. When I got home I had also learnt that my father in-law died whilst I was on Survivor and I didn’t make the funeral so I just wanted to be there for my wife.
