American one-hit wonder, Kreayshawn, sang-rapped about Gucci, Gucci, Louis, Louis, Fendi, Fendi, Prada and legions of fans sang-rapped along with her.

Whether Rick Ross-rich, or balling on a budget, pop culture purveyors have made a big deal of expensive fashion labels.

Some, like Lil Kim in her heyday, went as far as featuring the actual designers, such as Donatella Versace, in their music videos. This weekend, TopTV’s Fashion TV does us one better – the channel puts the spotlight entirely on the designers.

In a three-day special aptly called Focus on Designers, Fashion TV cuts the weekend up into bite-size chunks and explores the car-eers and the clothes of, and by, some of the best-known designers of our time. A segment that should definitely not be missed is a show dedicated to the influence UK designer Vivienne Westwood has had on the world.

The English treasure is known to have brought modern punk dress codes to the fore and, as you can see in the picture, she seems to believe “age ain’t nothing but a number” and goes as far as refusing to let her real hair colour see the light of day.

There are other shows to look out for. They include entire design teams that are at the helm of design houses. After all, while there are still those designers whose names are on the door and who still actually design, there are others who aren’t alive to do so.

Like Alexander McQueen, whose fashion label is a staple among the filthy rich and fabulous young-ish people. Since McQueen’s death, Sarah Burton has taken over the reins as creative director of the brand and has soared in this position while also taking the brand to new heights.

She did, after all, design the wedding dress of the decade: the one Kate Middleton wore when marrying Prince William.

Focus on Designers takes all those aspects into account. Whether in men’s or women’s wear, no designer is discriminated against. So if you want to know a little bit more than Kreayshawn did about the industry and the labels that run the world, tune into Fashion TV this weekend.

• The Focus on Designers weekend special takes place on Fashion TV (TopTV channel 452) from January 11 to 13 at varying time slots.
