Stacks on deck, Patrón on ice,

And we can pop bottles all night

Baby, you could have whatever you like.

I said, you could have whatever you like. Yeah

Anyone who is remotely into hip hop knows where these lyrics come from. If you don’t, then we will tell you. The song is titled Whatever You Like and the rapper who gave us the anthem is American TI. The song was chosen to hint at what his reality show, TI & Tiny: The Family Hustle, which premieres on Wednesday on MTV Base, will be like.

We all know the charismatic rapper has been on the airwaves for a few years and has given us some of the best music in hip hop. But with that success came a number of legal violations that saw TI go to prison a few times.

Born Clifford Joseph Harris, TI has donned many hats – from rapper and songwriter to actor and author.

In TI & Tiny: The Family Hustle, we see the King of the South at ease living his life behind the mic. TI is a husband and father and it should be interesting to see him without the brand-name clothes, heavy jewellery and screaming fans. We see the businessman in him when he shows the groundwork being done behind the clothing line Akoo and takes viewers into Grand Hustle Records, among other things.

Most fans know about his eventful relationship with wife, Tiny, whose real name is Tameka Cottle. The two tied the knot in 2010 and have two sons. So we will obviously see the bad boy in the rapper subside as he shows his affectionate side.

The show begins when TI is released from a 12-month prison sentence for violating probation. You and I are obviously curious to know if he has changed his ways, although it is highly unlikely.

“Tameka and I have a strong, loving family,” said TI. “In this family documentary, you will see the challenges of raising children while balancing a career. It’s like a lot of families, only our home is in the spotlight,” he said.

Tameka has stood by TI through all his trials and tribulations. As a former member of the group Xscape, she knows a thing or two about fame.

• TI & Tiny: The Family Hustle premieres on MTV Base, DStv channel 322, on Saturday at 9pm.
