Last night SABC 1 gave many viewers who couldn't watch Kalushi on cinemas a chance to view the local film. The film was first released nationwide in March of 2017.

This true story focuses on Thabo Rametsi, who plays Umkhonto weSizwe peratie Solomon Kalushi Mahlungu, a 19-year-old hawker from the streets of Mamelodi.

His mother Martha Mahlangu is a domestic worker.

In the story, Mahlangu is brutally beaten by the police, he goes into exile to join the liberation movement.

After undergoing military training in Angola, he is joined by friend and comrade Mondy who, in a heated incident, loses control and ends up shooting two innocent people in downtown Johannesburg.

While Mondy is severely beaten and tortured, Kalushi faces a daunting trial in which the state seeks the highest punishment - death by hanging.

Thank u so much to everyone who watched Kalushi even with the not so great pic quality & ads. But it's a start. Here's to African stories!❤️
