A stage musical directed by Lizz Meiring and featuring a popular cast, Agent Snoet en die Hondelewe, will be seen at 10.30am and 7pm today and tomorrow at Port Natal School in Dirk Uys Road, Umbilo.
The production, loosely based on the pioneering Afrikaans comic strip series by Francois Bloemhof and Alistair Ackermann, will be presented in the school hall.
The show is said to offer hilarious dialogue and witty lyrics by playwright Schalk Schoombie, while the music is by Afrikaans rock musician Herman van den Berg.
Kosie Smit is responsible for set and lighting design, and Johan Hendriksz is technical manager.
The cast includes Jill Middlekop (formerly of the group, Shine 4, and seen in Egoli) and Adrian Alper (seen in Egoli and Susanna van Biljon).
Also featured are Danie Putter, Eloise Clasen, Andre Lotter, Chris van Rensburg, Lindi Delport and Lizelle de Klerk.
Agent Snoet en die Hondelewe is aimed at the family, says executive producer Nita Cronje, pointing out that Bloemhof’s comic strip character, Agent Snoet, is an Afrikaans James Bond with a twist.
“Expect a musical with brave heroes, crooks and beautiful girls, and with more than enough drama, confusion and intrigue to keep you on the edge of your seat,” she adds.
“Add some hilarious humour, exciting dance acts and rock music, and you have an unforgettable theatre experience.”
The show boasts animation projections, plasma screens and unconventional costumes, and is said to be ideal for introducing Afrikaans to pupils for whom it is a second language.
Tickets, available at the hall, cost R70 (R50 for group bookings of 20 or more and for children under 12). For bookings or further details call Nita at 011 919 9087.
