Eight Naledi Award nominations for Fame

Fame The Musical, which closes in the Cape Town International Convention Centre tomorrow, has received eight nominations in five Naledi Theatre Awards categories.

The finalists will be announced at the Naledi Theatre Awards Ceremony at the Sound Stage Theatre in Midrand on Sunday.

Actress-singer extraordinaire Mara Louw, who plays the role of Miss Sherman in the show, will co-host the Naledi Awards ceremony with Barry Ronge.

Louw was nominated for best female performance in a musical alongside fellow Fame cast members Shelley Meskin, for her role as Serena Katz, and Relebogile Mabotja, who plays Mabel Washington.

Cape Town actor-singer Keeno-Lee Hector (playing Jose Joe Vegas) and Carlo McFarlane (playing Tyrone Jackson) are nominated for best male performance in a musical.

McFarlane is also nominated in the best male performance by a newcomer category. He is known for his role as the heartthrob Shawn in e.tv's Backstage.

Mabotja is nominated for best female performance by a newcomer. Fame The Musical is nominated in the category best production of a musical. Booking: Computicket.

- In the Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards announced in Cape Town this week Fame The Musical received no nominations.
