Adults, teens and kids flocked to the Durban ICC for the opening night of Disney On Ice on Wednesday.  And what a magical night it turned out to be.

It was my first time at the show and although I've heard amazing things about it before, I wasn’t quiet sold. I didn’t know how I felt about real people in giant cartoon suits, trying to ice skate.

Then, the thought of carting the kids and their extras was something I was not ready to deal with, but I'm extremely happy that I gathered up the courage and went - kids and all!

Upon entering the auditorium, there was a huge ice rink that was built for the occasion.

Soon thereafter, the lights dimmed and the kids and I were transported back in time to the magical world of Disney characters and stories that were brought to life on ice-skates.

We got to watch and listen to the stories of Ariel, Rapunzel, Cinderella, Snow White, Tiana and Belle and travel to the wintry world of Arendelle with Anna, Elsa and Olaf.

The production was clear and clean. The ice skating performance was of world class standards and the characters really did justice to the stories.

The Disney princes and princesses looked like they popped out of the story books.

I was in absolute awe of what was happening in front of me.

There were bursts of  bubbles when we were under the sea with Sabasation and Ariel and then snow when Anna travelled the mountains looking for her sister Elsa.

The kids were amazed and couldn’t stop chatting about it all the way home.

It’s truly a fulfilled experience that turned me into a kid for a few hours.

It brought back wonderful childhood memories and definitely worth every penny.

I’m sitting back and thinking that maybe I enjoyed it more than the kids, and I’m not afraid to say it. Well done to Disney On Ice.
