SEABROOKES THEATRE: Durban High School’s Seabrooke’s Theatre will start the year with Thinskin’s production of Callum’s Will, written and directed by Janna Ramos-Violante and starring Darren King and Clinton Small. Callum’s Will, set in London in the early 1990s, takes the audience on an almost filmic experience as the unlikely relationship of the two male characters evolves from an awkward first encounter to a deep, lasting friendship which neither expects or understands. BARNYARD THEATRE: You get the ultimate beach party experience in Surf’s Up, running until March 3. Surf’s Up will sail you to exotic musical destinations such as Jamaica, where you can dance the night away to the sounds of Bob Marley and UB40. Then head to California for the sounds of The Beach Boys, and on to Miami with bikini girls Katy Perry and Sheryl Crow. Let’s not forget the South African beach party with the magic of Mango Groove. HERITAGE THEATRE: Back by popular demand for its fourth season is The Jazz Singer – a tribute to Neil Diamond. Featuring a host of Diamond’s hits, the show features Barry Thompson, Mali Sewell, Jason Andrew and Shaun Draght. It will be fronted by Grant Bell of The Gee Jays. RHUMBELOW THEATRE: Suspects of Love (aka Aspects of Love) featuring Derek Pearce, Greg Baptie, Roland Stansell and Alan Quihampton is a comical lip-sync drag show that looks at the ups and downs of love. The Family Players’ show stages from February 14 to 17. The Valentine’s Day show is at 7.30pm, with the February 15 and 16 shows at 8pm, and the 17th at 2pm. Venue opens 90 minutes before the show for picnic dinner. Cash bar available. It could be Evita Bezuidenhout as a new ANC cadre, or Nowell Fine celebrating 40 years in the public eye. SIBAYA CASINO: Braz Ouz in Concert is a show of comedy and songs that stages on March 8 and 9. Mervyn Pillay plays host and ringmaster, spicing the show up with diverse entertainers. Braz Ouz (male friends) is a typical Durban term of endearment, hence the title of the show. The Braz Ouz are comedian and entertainer Mervyn Pillay, singer and musician Lendel Moonsamy (of Idols fame), actor and comedian Arnotte Payne, singer Darrius Pillay and comedian Anesh Dasrath. STABLE THEATRE: Inkonyane Engegama (The Calf With No Name), a heart-warming new children’s stage play, runs from March 12 to 16 daily at 10am. Created by award-winning writer Clinton Marius, the production is translated into Zulu and directed by Mpume Mthombeni. The story traces the journey a Zulu boy must take to set right a wrong he has committed. Features Sifiso Cele, Musa Ntuli, Noluthando Kubeka and Qaphela Makhoba.
