Vittal Govender, 6, and Keshav Govender, 2, engrossed in their gifts from The Kid Zone which they received after signing up for the Santa Run.

Toys delivered to your doorstep Santa style are what you can expect when you sign up for Durban’s first Santa Run, on November 25 at Growth Point Kings Park Stadium.

After registering my children, Vittal, 6, and Keshav, 2, for the 5km family walk I was delighted to hear from event sponsor The Kid Zone.

I instantly received email correspondence from the online toy store and was notified in a matter of days that the boys free gifts had been dispatched.

An SMS on the day of delivery notified me that the parcel would arrive that day, informing me of the courier vehicle to expect and even providing the driver's name.

The big boxes were filled with gender-neutral, mentally stimulating toys.

The experience dispelled numerous myths about online shopping in one swift motion and still there is the anticipation of joining Sharkie and other KwaZulu-Natal families in red regalia on the last Saturday of the month.

The Santa Run is a global concept, with fun walks held in numerous countries across the world. People dress up in Santa suits, or at least the hats in Durban’s heat, and the event promotes healthy, family lifestyle values and that feel-good Christmas vibe.

Everyone who registers will receive a free gift. Children aged 3-12 will receive a toy and 13+ will receive a voucher from The Kid Zone.
