Some of the country's biggest kwaito stars are flying into Durban this weekend for a massive thrash on Sunday night at King's Park Soccer Stadium.

Featuring the talent of such celebs as Mandoza, Mzekezeke, Mapaputsi, Zola, Pitch Black Afro and Amadimoni, the Kwaito Summer Festival should be a jol of note.

Mzekezeke - the masked one - released a new album Izinyoka in October, and the 17-track release features a number of well-known artists, including Bruce Sebitlo of Brothers Of Peace and Sash of Izinyoka.

Pitch Black Afro burst on to the scene in 2001 when he took part in the Rap Activity Jams on YFM where he won the MC of the week and then the month. He was then spotted by acclaimed producer DJ Cleo - and the rest is toothy history.

Zola needs no introduction. This actor and musician's debut album Umdlwembe achieved platinum status and has sold over 180 000. His latest album is called Bhambatha.

Mandoza is another kwaito heavyweight, whose hit song Nkalakatha achieved enormous success and managed to cross over into various cultures and genres. His latest album, Phinda Vuke, features the hit song Sgelekeqe.

Mapaputsi hit the scene in 1998, working with artists like TKZee and Chiskop. In 2001, then YFM DJ Khabzela encouraged Mapaputsi to record an album - the result was Izinja. This album was followed last year by Kleva, which saw the musician touring Africa and being applauded in countries like Namibia and Ghana.

Tickets for the concert, which starts at 1pm, are R50. Book through Computicket.
