Young filmmakers attend the Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) so that they can sell their latest films and ideas to producers and distributors.
The festival is also home to the Durban Film Mart: a market place where films are incubated and filmmakers are given tips on how to get funding and distribution deals.
We spoke to Shanelle Jewnarain and Tiny Mungwe — who are currently working on a documentary about sex workers in South Africa — about their new project on the DIFF red carpet.
Mungwe has also been nominated for a Simon Mabhunu Sabela Award, which will take place on Saturday evening at the Durban Playhouse.
We also spoke to Francesca Varrie Michel and Liza Scholtz, the cast members of High Fantasy, a film about four young friends on a camping trip, deep in the South African countryside wake up to discover they have all swapped bodies. The film is currently streaming on Amazon Prime in the US and they hope the film will be bought for distribution in South Africa.
The Durban International Film Festival runs until Sunday, July 29 at various venues around Durban.
