The weekend of Comic Con Africa was a weekend filled with intrigue, excitement and a lot of firsts.

Fans came out in their numbers to attend the International event, that was being held at the Kyalami International Convention Centre in Midrand, from the 14th to the 16th September.

With music provided by some of South Africa’s biggest DJs, fans dressed in their favourite costumes, paying homage to the likes of Superman, Iron Man, Dragonball Z, Captain America, Spiderman, Anime, Manga and Batman - there were even competitions being held for the best costumes.

International celebrities Ricky Whittle (American Gods, The 100), Yetide Badaki (American Gods), Travis Fimmel (Vikings, Warcraft), Kevin Sussman (Big Bang Theory) and Demore Barnes (12 Monkeys, American Gods) all made their appearances on the various panels which took place at Comic Con - discussing matters on the film industry, representation and the future of film and television, especially with the growing popularity of Science Fiction, comedy and Fantasy television series.

Some of the activities that took place over the weekend included LARPing competitions (live role-playing), the MTN Asphalt finals tournament, cosplay competitions featuring international cosplayers Yaya Han and Philip Odango as the judges and a live E-gaming competition that took place inside the convention centre.

After selling out their tickets for the entire event, Comic Con Africa has promised that 2019’s edition of Comic Con Africa will be bigger and better.
